Poovamma finish seventh in Final of World Youth
New Delhi, 13 July: India’s M. R. Poovamma finished 7th in the final of the Girls 400m run in the IAAF World Youth Athletics Championship at Ostrava (Czech Republic) .
            M.R. Poovamma, a student of St. Mary's PU College in Mangalore started the race in lane 8, with one option and that was to run fast and she did it but in the last 100m pre race favourite Yuliya BARALEY of Ukraine took the charge of the race and won the title with 53.57s. Poovamma clocked 55.49s.
Poovamma, first Indian youth athlete to enter final of World Youth
New Delhi, 12 July: M. R. Poovamma became the first Indian athlete to enter in the final of IAAF World Youth Athletics Championship. Running in lane 2, Poovamma clocked personal best timing of 55.15s. to finish third in the 2nd semi final of girls 400m run . Yuliya BARALEY of Ukraine won the semis with 54.96s while Canadian Natalie GEIGER took second place with 55.00s. In the morning session Ajaj Ahmad fouled all his three throws in the boys hammer throw qualifying round.
Poovamma moves into semis- day one of World Youth Athletics
New Delhi, 11 July-
India’s M. R. Poovamma moves into the semi-final of Girls 400m run when she finished third in the 6th heat with a timing of 55.37s, just outside her personal best on the first day of the IAAF World Youth Athletics Championship at Ostrava. Poovamma will run tomorrow in the semi finals.
            In the morning session, Ajay Pal Singh failed to find place in the Top 12 of Boys Shot Put. Ajay threw 16.83m and finished on the 18th place in Group-A. In the later evening Sahil Mahindra will try to qualify in the boys 800m final.
14 athletes to represent India in World Youth
 Delhi, 5 July: India will field 14 member athletic team in the 5th IAAF World Youth Athletics Championship to be held at Ostrava (Czech) from July 11-15,2007.
               Indian team is selected on the basis of performance of National Youth Athletics Championship held in Bangalore on June 1-2. Following are the athletes. Team consists of 6 boys and 8 girls.
             Boys: Sahil Mahindra (800m-Delhi), Ajay Pal Singh (Shot Put-Delhi), Jithin Paul (400mh-Kerala), Shivam Singh (Discus-UP), Ajaj Ahmed (Hammer-Del), Virender Kumar (Javelin-Haryana); Girls: M. R. Poovamma (400m-Karnataka), Anu Mariam Jose (800m-Kerala), Neethu Mathew (Triple jump-Kerala), Manpreet kaur ( Shot Put-Punjab), Debashree Majumdar (Medley relay-West Bengal), Jauna Marmu(Medley relay-Orissa), Nanda Sarbani (Medley Relay-Orissa), Shriya Vidwans (Medley relay-Maharashtra), Team Manager- Suresh Babu   .
